4. Purposes and legal bases
We process information to provide requested app functionality, analyze meal input, save and display user-selected tracking data, personalize the experience where you choose to connect Apple Health, manage access to paid features, prevent misuse, maintain security and reliability, respond to support requests, and meet legal obligations. Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, processing is based on performance of the service requested by you, your consent, compliance with legal obligations, and legitimate interests in operating and securing SnapCalo.
Access to Apple Health data is optional and subject to the permissions you grant through Apple. SnapCalo does not use Apple Health data for advertising, marketing, or cross-app tracking.
5. Service providers and data recipients
SnapCalo uses selected third-party service providers to operate and distribute the app and website. Depending on the feature you use, information may be shared with the following categories of service providers only as reasonably necessary for the stated purpose:
- OpenAI — SnapCalo uses OpenAI as a third-party AI service provider for AI-based food and nutrition analysis. When you request an AI analysis, food photos, food descriptions, transcribed speech input, and related analysis context may be transmitted to OpenAI as necessary to provide the requested analysis. SnapCalo requests your permission in the app before applicable personal data is shared with OpenAI.
- Subscription and payment service providers — for subscription management, entitlement verification, app distribution, platform services, and in-app purchase processing. This may include an app-user identifier, product and entitlement information, purchase status, and renewal information.
- Backend, hosting, and infrastructure providers — to process app requests, operate SnapCalo services, and deliver and protect the SnapCalo website. Connection, technical, and security information may be processed as necessary for these purposes.
- Resend — SnapCalo uses Resend as an email service provider for support and service-related email communications. When you contact SnapCalo or when an email is sent through this service, information necessary to send and process the email, such as your email address, message content, and related email delivery information, may be processed by Resend.
Third-party providers receive only the information reasonably necessary to perform the relevant service. We require service providers handling SnapCalo user data to provide the same or equivalent protection of user data as described in this Privacy Policy and consistent with applicable privacy and security requirements. Data may be processed outside Switzerland or the European Economic Area. Where required, we rely on appropriate contractual or statutory safeguards for international transfers.
Where personal data is sent to a third-party AI provider, SnapCalo provides an in-app disclosure and requests any consent required by applicable platform rules or law before that sharing occurs.
6. No sale, advertising, or cross-app tracking
SnapCalo does not sell personal data. The current app is not designed to use personal data for third-party advertising or to track users across unrelated apps and websites. If this changes, this policy and the relevant App Store and Google Play declarations will be updated before the change is introduced.
7. Storage and retention
- Temporary backend image uploads used for meal analysis are deleted from SnapCalo's backend after the analysis request is completed. Information transmitted to service providers is also subject to the applicable provider arrangements and retention controls.
- Saved meals, nutrition data, progress entries, and related app content may remain on the user's device until deleted in the app, the app's data is cleared, or the app is uninstalled.
- Server-side usage, security, rate-limit, cost, and diagnostic records are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for their operational purpose and applicable legal obligations.
- Support emails and feedback are retained for as long as needed to address the request, document a resolution, improve the service, or satisfy legal requirements.
- Subscription-related records may be retained by the relevant app store, service providers, and SnapCalo as required to verify access and comply with financial or legal obligations.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encrypted network transmission, access controls, limited backend access, request limits, and abuse-prevention measures. No online system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
9. Your rights and privacy requests
Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or a portable copy of personal data, and you may withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. Because SnapCalo does not require a standard account, include sufficient information in your request to help us locate relevant support, feedback, subscription, or technical records without sending unnecessary sensitive data.
Requests can be sent to [email protected]. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data-protection authority. In Switzerland, this is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
10. Children
SnapCalo is not directed to children below the minimum age required to consent to data processing in their country. We do not knowingly seek to collect personal data from children without the authorization required by applicable law.
11. Website data
The current SnapCalo landing page is designed as a static website and does not intentionally set advertising cookies or operate behavioural analytics. The hosting provider may process standard connection information such as IP address, browser type, requested URL, timestamp, and security events to deliver and protect the website.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when SnapCalo, its providers, or legal requirements change. The current version and update date will always be published on this page.
